I CONSIDER A FIRE HYDRANT AS AN IMPORTANT TOOL FOR THE FIRE DEPARTMENT TO HAVE HIGH PRESSURE WATER TO HELP, UH, THE IMMEDIATE AREA TO ON CASE OF EMERGENCY.
THE FIRE HYDROGENS HAVE, UH, THREE PRIORITIES WELL, WITH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT THAT THEY USE.
THE BIGGEST, THE MAIN PRIORITY IS VISIBILITY, IS KEEPING IT CLEAR OF ALL GRASS, DEBRIS AND EVERYTHING, TREES GROWING AROUND IT, WHERE THE VISIBILITY DON'T DISAPPEAR.
THE OTHER PRIORITY THAT THE FIRE DEPARTMENT HAS WITH THEMSELVES IS PUTTING A REFLECTOR ON IT.
THE REFLECTOR, WHETHER IT'S PAINT, THE REFLECTORS ARE ON THE STREET, THEY HELP THE FIRE DEPARTMENT LOCATE 'EM AT NIGHT BETTER AND EASIER.
THE, UH, THIRD ONE, THEY GOT A MAPPING SYSTEM.
THE MAPPING SYSTEM IS A FIRE HYDRANT LOCATOR IS DESIGNED BY MAN.
THEY CAN PUT EVERYTHING IN THERE.

SO I FEEL LIKE I HAVE TO COME BACK HERE AND MAYBE ADDRESS THESE AND SEE WHAT WE CAN FILL THE GAP.
UM, ONE IS, THAT'S NEVER REALLY BEEN ADDRESSED.
WE REALLY TALK ALWAYS ABOUT THE SHELTER, AND I'M VERY THANKFUL THAT I THINK THAT'S GOING IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION.
BUT I THINK WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT SOLUTIONS THAT WE CAN DEAL WITH RIGHT HERE AND NOW.
AND SOME OF THOSE ARE, UH, POSSIBLY A VET THAT'S ON CALL FOR ANY KIND OF INJURED ANIMAL.
UH, POSSIBLE SPAY AND NEUTER SNIPPET IN THE BUD IS WORKING VERY WELL IN THE COUNTY.

AND JUST TODAY SHE HAD 89 ANIMALS, SPAY AND NEUTERED.
UH, I REALLY WOULD LOVE IT IF THE CITY COULD, YOU KNOW, POSSIBLY JOIN UP WITH HER AND GET THAT IN OUR CITY AS WELL.
UM, I'M GONNA REALLY TALK, MY MAIN REASON WAS TODAY TO TALK ABOUT SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T LIKE TO TALK ABOUT.
AND MY THOUGHTS AND CONCERNS ARE OVER EUTHANASIA.
IT'S NOT A TOPIC THAT MOST CITIZENS OR AUTHORITIES WANT TO DISCUSS, BUT IT CAN'T BE IGNORED.
IF WE WANNA MAKE BETTER CHANGES IN OUR COMMUNITY WITH ANIMAL CONTROL.
THE FIRST CHANGE I WOULD LIKE TO SEE HAPPEN IS IF ANY ANIMAL IN WAXAHATCHEE HAS BEEN INJURED, THAT THERE THEY COULD BE TAKEN TO ANIMAL CONTROL AND BE DETERMINED IF THERE IS A QUALITY OF LIFE THERE.
IF THERE IS, THAT THERE WOULD BE RESCUES AND FOSTERS IN PLACE FOR THAT ANIMAL.
AND, UH, THERE WOULD BE THE PET COALITION OF ELLIS COUNTY OR A LOCAL CAT AND DOG RESCUES THAT ARE GREAT RESOURCES.
UM, AND IF THEY CAN'T STEP UP TO THE PLATE TO TAKE CARE OF THAT ANIMAL AT THAT TIME, THEN THEY WOULD BEELY EUTHANIZED.
THE SECOND CHANGE WOULD BE THAT THERE WOULD BE A COMMITTEE, UH, THAT WOULD VOTE ON THE EVALUATION OF THE PETS THAT HAVE BEEN THERE MORE THAN THREE TO SIX MONTHS.
THAT COULD BE DETERMINED IF THEIR ADOPTIONS ARE, IF THEY'RE ELIGIBLE FOR ADOPTION.
AND THAT DETERMINATION WOULD BE IF THEY'RE GOOD WITH CHILDREN, IF THEY, HOW THEY ACT WITH FOOD TOYS, HOW THEY ACT WITH OTHER ANIMALS, UM, MEDICAL NEEDS IF THEY'RE GOING SHELTER CRAZY.
I WAS AT THE SHELTER ONE DAY AND I SEEN THIS DOG JUST CHEWING AT THE METAL GRATE BECAUSE IT HAD BEEN IN THERE SO LONG.
I ASKED 'EM LIKE, WHY IS IT DOING THAT? AND THEY'RE LIKE, IT'S 'CAUSE IT'S BEEN THERE TOO LONG.
IT'S BEEN THERE SINCE IT'S A PUPPY.
AND SO THOSE ARE THINGS THAT, UM, I THINK WE NEED TO LOOK INTO MORE DEEPLY.
I MEAN, THAT'S JUST NOT, IT'S LIKE A PRISON.
WE WOULDN'T WANNA BE PRISONED, I DON'T THINK THEY WOULDN'T WANNA BE PRISONED.
I KNOW EUTHANASIA IS A VERY HARD TOPIC TO TALK ABOUT, BUT IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT.

WE'RE TRYING TO TRAP IT THAT THOSE PEOPLE HAVE TO REACH OUT TO THE COMMUNITY FOR HELP.

AND WE HAVE DISTRIBUTED 27,809 POUNDS OF PET FOOD JUST SINCE JANUARY.
SO THAT IS 13.9 TONS OF FOOD THAT WE HAVE GIVEN OUT IN THIS COUNTY.
THERE ARE THAT MANY PEOPLE IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE, AND SO WE HAVE BEEN TRYING TO HELP WITH THAT NEED.
UH, SPEAKING TO ALL OF THE STRAY ANIMALS THAT WE KNOW ARE OUT THERE.
UM, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING TO MAKE PARTNERS WITH DIFFERENT RESCUES, FOSTERS.
UM, BUT WE HAVE BEEN MAKING GREAT STRIDES IN CONNECTING WITH OTHER ORGANIZATIONS OUT OF STATE AND MAKING PARTNERSHIPS WORKING AT THE STATE LEVEL, UM, WITH SOME REPRESENTATIVES TO TRY TO HELP US MAKE SOME INROADS AND JUST MAKE SOME FRIENDSHIPS SO THAT WE CAN HELP GET THESE ANIMALS TO OTHER PLACES WHERE THEY'RE LOOKING FOR PETS.
AND, UH, WE'VE HAD 101 PEOPLE LOOKING FOR HELP, FINDING PLACEMENT FOR ANIMALS THAT THEY HAVE TAKEN IN.
AND WE'VE, UH, HAD SUCCESS WITH 32 OF THOSE ANIMALS FINDING PLACEMENTS SO FAR THIS YEAR.
IN TERMS OF MEDICAL AND PREVENTATIVE CARE, WE'VE HAD 133 PEOPLE LOOKING FOR MEDICAL CARE.
EVERYTHING FROM HEARTWORM TREATMENT TO SPAY AND NEUTER.
WE'VE BEEN WORKING WITH, UH, FLYING BEE ANIMAL RESCUE, AND WE'VE BEEN DOING A, A LOW COST VACCINE CLINIC AND GIVING THE COMMUNITY VOUCHERS SO THAT THEY CAN GET THEIR PETS UP TO DATE BECAUSE IT'S VERY IMPORTANT THAT PETS, YOU KNOW, STAY UP TO DATE ON THEIR VACCINES SO THAT IT'S NOT A HEALTH CRISIS IN OUR COMMUNITY.

SO WE TOOK ON THE MEDICAL BURDEN AND TOOK CARE OF THAT ANIMAL, AND WE WERE SUCCESSFUL IN FINDING A HOME FOR THAT PET.

WE'VE WORKED WITH FERRIS ANIMAL SHELTER, WE'VE BEEN ABLE TO HELP THE, UH, ANIMALS THROUGH A SHELTER, PET SPONSORSHIP SPOTLIGHT THAT WE DO.
UM, UNFORTUNATELY WE HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO WORK WITH WAXAHATCHEE YET, BUT WE'RE HOPING THAT WE CAN, UM, WE CAN, YOU KNOW, BRING, UH, EXPOSURE TO THESE ANIMALS IF THEY NEED MEDICAL TREATMENT, HEARTWORM PREVENTATIVE.
